桂林师范高等专科学校座落在有“山水甲天下”美誉的国际旅游名城——桂林市“两江四湖”景区。学校分信义和甲山两个校区，校园内林木葱郁，鸟语花香，教学大楼错落有致，是读书求学的理想场所。
    学校前身为创建于1938年的广西省立桂林师范学校，迄今已有70多年的办学历史。学校现有全日制普通高等教育在校生6441人，面向全国21个省、自治区、直辖市招生，是广西高等师范专科学校中在校生人数最多、规模最大的学校。学生就业率连续三年达到85%以上，稳居广西同类院校前列。
    学校占地面积430亩，校舍建筑面积约15.58万平方米，教学仪器设备总价值3685余万元，图书馆藏书118.45万册(其中电子图书68.7万册)。学校师资力量雄厚，现有教师总数为557人，专任教师313人。高、中级职称教师占学校专任教师的78%。另外，学校还常年聘请多名兼职教授和外籍教师任教。
    学校设有中文、政治与社会学、外语、数学与计算机科学、物理与信息技术、化学与工程技术、音乐、美术、教育与管理9个系和社会科学教学部、公共体育教学部、公共艺术教学部、大学计算机教学部、大学英语教学部及培训部6个部，共有42个高职高专专业。
    学校的校风校训是“勤学慎思·明德笃行”，在长期的办学中秉承首任校长唐现之先生的“艺术兴学”主张，在全区专科院校中率先开设艺术类专业，并作为学校的特色专业重点建设，积淀形成了“秉承艺术兴学传统，以艺术教育为平台，全面提高学生综合素质，服务地方经济文化建设”的办学特色。1985年成立的音乐、美术两系，是广西培养基础教育艺术师资的主要基地，办学特色鲜明，在区内外享有一定声誉。学校以艺术教育为平台，在非艺术专业中开设艺术类课程，提高学生艺术修养和人文素质。利用专业优势，服务地方经济文化建设。
    2004、2006、2008年我校音乐系学生代表广西参加教育部举办的第三届、第四届、第五届“珠江杯”全国高校音乐教育专业五项全能基本功大赛，分别获得专科组团体总分第三名2个和第二名1个。
    2005年、2006年我校各专业学生参加“全国大学生英语竞赛”和“CCTV演讲比赛”，多人次获特等、一等奖。数学系学生参加“全国大学生数学建模竞赛”多次获广西赛区二、三等奖。
    学校重视语言文字工作并取得了很好成绩，充分凸显了我校在语言文字规范化工作中的示范性作用。2004年和2007年两次获得“自治区语言文字工作先进集体”称号。2007年获“国家级语言文字规范化示范学校” 称号。

A brief introduction of Guilin Normal College

    Being located in the Two-river-four-lake beauty spot in Guilin,a world-famous tourist city,Guilin Normal College is a good place for learning and research. Guilin Normal College is composed of two campuses—Xinyi Campus and Jiashan Campus, where beautiful buildings are surrounded by trees and flowers with birds twittering around.

    Guilin Normal College(GNC) emerged from the Guangxi Provincial Teachers Training School,built in 1938 with a glorious history of 70 years. Besides Guangxi,GNC enrolls students from 21 provinces in China. At present,the on-campus student number of GNC is 6441, the largest one among similar normal colleges in Guangxi. In the past three years, the employment rate of GNC has kept above 85%, stably ranking ahead of the similar colleges in the same area.


    At present, GNC covers an area of 422.5 mu (about 70 acres) with a building area of 155,800 square metres. It has a library collection of over 1,184,500 volumes of books, 687,000 of which are e-books. The college stores over 36.8 million RMB worth of educational equipment. The college has a staff of 557 qualified faculty members, 313 of whom are full-time teachers.Teachers with high or intermediate titles of technical post account for 78% of all the full-time teachers. In addition, GNC has been periodically employing part-time professors and overseas teachers to work for its temporary needs.

    GNC has nine faculties, including Studies of Chinese & Literature, Politics & Sociology, Foreign language studies, Mathematics & Computer Science, Physics & Information Technology, Chemistry & Engineering Technology, Music & Performance, Fine Arts and Educational and Public Administration. Besides the above-mentioned, GNC has 6 teaching service departments such as Social Scientific Teaching Department, Public PE Teaching Department,Public Art Teaching Department,College Computer Teaching Department and Public English Teaching Department.All the above faculties and departments involve 42 major courses specialized for college education.

    Succeeding to the spirit of invigoratingly learning by art, a belief initiated by Mr. Tang Xianzhi, the first president of this school,GNC has widely received the sermon,“Being learned with wise thought and repeated practice with noble moralities”as the general direction for all education. Among the similar colleges in Guangxi,GNC took the lead to specialize its music and art majors as key specialties and has gained great achievement. Music and Fine Arts,two faculties founded in 1985,now have become main bases in Guangxi for training foundational music and art teachers.GNC is on the rise to be an intellectual support to the economy and cultural development of local societies.

    The “Zhu Jiang Cup”piano competition held every two years by the Ministry of State Education has been regarded as the inspectation show for the five national powerful skills of music teaching in China. In the year 2004,2006 and 2008, GNC was chosen and sent as the representative of colleges in Guangxi to attend the third,the fourth and the fifth “Zhu Jiang Cup”piano competition.Through a series of contests,GNC successively won one Total Score Num. 2 and two Total Score Num. 3,which brought good reputation to Guangxi colleges.

    In the year 2005 to 2006,GNC organized its students to attend the National English Speaking Competition (College Student section) and CCTV Speech Contest,quite some participants won the special awards and the first place.For the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition. GNC participants won many awards of the second and the third places.

    GNC attaches importance to the work of language and characters and gained excellent results.In the year 2004 and 2007,GNC twice won the name of “the Regional Model Collectivity for Language and Characters” and once won the name of “State-level Model School for Language and Characters", which made it a good example in the standardization of language and characters.
